Writers' Workshop with Nancy Hundal
(Gr4 to Gr7)
Creative Writing & Poetry Contest (GrK-7)
Join best-selling children's author Nancy Hundal in the return of her much anticipated Writers' Workshop program for McKechnie students!
We will be entering two poetry contests: the Cherry Blossom Festival Haiku Invitational and Polar Expressions poetry contest. (The second is a company that produces a good quality soft cover anthology of chosen poetry which may be purchased by families, if desired. There is no entry fee for either contest and no obligation to buy.)
During this session, we will first learn about and write our own haiku, centered around the cherry blossom theme. Then we’ll study writing techniques such as similes, metaphors and alliteration as ways to give our poetry (and other written work) more polish. Using different methods, we will then write three other poems and choose the best to submit to the second contest.
The format of the workshop will be:
Short free write to warm up
Student writing/sharing with Ms. Hundal
Writing/vocabulary activity to wrap up
Starts on Tuesday, April 5th @ 3:45-4:45pm on Google Meet (8 sessions for $120)
